TAK TOYOSHIMA
comic book artist | illustrator
creative director
Hello! I'm Tak Toyoshima, a comic book artist/writer and illustrator. I'm the creator of Secret Asian Man, a comic strip exploring race relations, social justice, and anything else that gets people's undies in a bunch. Through United Features, SAM became the first nationally syndicated comic strip featuring an Asian American lead and I'm pretty darn proud of that!
Currently I am also the art and communications director for MICE (Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo) and teach comics to middle schoolers on the weekends here in Massachusetts.
I love to tell stories that make people think, without judgement, about their lives, their decisions, and the effects of their actions on others. My dad was a Neo-Dadaist sculptor and used to tell me about the concept of a "life work". A work that is never truly finished but evolves throughout the course of your life. Comics are my life work.
